Welcome. I am an Assistant Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College. I have a PhD in political science from the University of Chicago and a JD from Tulane University. My research interests are broad: polarization, the political development of institutions, public law, political parties and ideology, and the politics of expertise over the course of 20th- and 21st-century American politics.

My research and writing have been published in American Political Science Review, Law & Social Inquiry, Studies in American Political Development, American Political Thought, Journal of American Constitutional History, and an Oxford Handbook chapter, among other venues.

My book manuscript — Enemy Establishments: How the Hundred-Year War to Control America’s Institutions Polarized Its Politics — will be released by Princeton University Press in March 2027. I have various papers on, e.g., the methodological problem of periodization schemas, a reassessment of the conservative legal movement, legal liberalism, the politics of constitutional theory, and the politics of expertise either under review or in progress. And research and data collection are underway for a second book project tentatively titled: Progressively Polarized: The Democratic Party and the Liberal Establishment, From 1980 to Today.
