I am an Assistant Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College. I have a PhD in political science from the University of Chicago and a JD from Tulane University.&nbsp;My research interests are broad: public law; American constitutional and political development; American political and legal economy; political ideology across twentieth- and twenty-first-century American politics; and the politics of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My research and writing have been published in&nbsp;<em>American Political Science Review, Law &amp; Social Inquiry<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Studies in American Political Development<\/em>, <em>American Political Thought<\/em>, <em>Journal of American Constitutional History<\/em>, and&nbsp;an <em>Oxford Handbook&nbsp;<\/em>chapter, among other venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My book manuscript &#8212; <em><a href=\"https:\/\/press.princeton.edu\/books\/hardcover\/9780691294889\/enemy-establishments?srsltid=AU7gw4X4r1s1PQXXQt1d_eavycn9VDtVOfhcGdV1SfnOUH6NQB2KD5mA\">Enemy Establishments: How the Hundred-Year War to Control America&#8217;s Institutions Polarized Its Politics<\/a><\/em> &#8212; will be released by Princeton University Press in July 2027. I have various papers on, e.g., a reassessment of the conservative legal movement, legal liberalism, the politics of constitutional theory, the methodological problem of periodization schemas, and the politics of expertise at each stage of the process (conditionally accepted, R&amp;R, under review, manuscript complete, or in progress).
